Cat Wall Shelves for European Retailers: Build a Modular Range

A successful buying brief for cat wall shelves starts with a repeatable set, not the largest wall display. For European retailers and importers, the useful decisions are which modules belong in the box, how the installation is explained, and which information changes between countries. This guide uses NAVORIQ's modular wooden cat climbing wall as a practical example, with a worksheet for turning a display concept into a wholesale specification.

1. Sell a clear climbing route, not a wall full of accessories

Wall-mounted cat furniture can combine climbing, scratching and resting in one display. Cats Protection recommends cat-friendly shelves and climbing opportunities for indoor cats, and advises that high places should be easy to get down from. Translate that into a buying question: can your retail illustration explain the route in both directions?

Ask for an entry point, reachable intermediate positions and a resting destination on the proposed layout. Have the supplier specify spacing and intended-use limits for the selected modules and cats; there is no single jump distance that suits every animal. Keep the display clear of doors, curtains and household obstacles. A photograph should support the installation instructions rather than replace them.

2. Turn the display photograph into a counted parts list

NAV-F084 is a modular cat climbing wall listed with a perforated backing system for adding, moving and removing components. Its catalogue describes more than ten module types, including ladders, posts, rotating posts and transparent resting capsules. Modules can be selected individually, so one attractive display does not define one universal order quantity.

The listed 3600 × 450 × 2400 mm dimensions describe the pictured arrangement. They are not the size of every possible kit or its shipping carton. Request a drawing for your chosen layout showing overall width, projection and height, then connect every pictured component to a line in the quotation.

For example, a retailer might request one entry route in two finishes and one compatible extension option. This is a proposed assortment brief, not a claim that those kits are currently stocked. Confirm whether backing panels, brackets, fasteners, inserts and all pictured accessories are included, optional or sourced separately.

  • Give each module a reference, quantity, finish and revision in the set's bill of materials.
  • Separate the display's overall dimensions from each component's dimensions and usable resting area.
  • Mark optional items on both the packing list and retail photograph.
  • Agree what may change on a reorder and what requires a new sample approval.

3. Buy the installation information with the furniture

The destination country does not tell you what wall a customer has. Ask for a model-specific statement of suitable substrates and fixing requirements, rather than a generic promise that the same screws fit every wall. Brick, concrete, hollow block and plasterboard constructions need the supplier or a competent installer to determine the appropriate installation method.

For each set, request the mounting drawing, fixing locations, required tools, included hardware, intended-use limits and inspection instructions. Ask what evidence supports any load claim and which wall, fixings and configuration it covers. Do not turn an undocumented shelf capacity into a claim for a complete multi-cat wall.

If a target customer cannot make permanent wall fixings, that is a reason to offer a different product format. Do not market this wall system as a no-drill solution. Your store team should be able to explain installation prerequisites before purchase, not after a customer opens the carton.

4. Distinguish the wooden system from separate resting products

NAV-F084 lists multi-layer wood plywood and oak or walnut finishes. Those finish names do not mean solid oak or solid walnut. The catalogue's ENF reference is a supplier-stated board grade; request the material documentation for the supplied version rather than treating that label as evidence of approval for every European destination.

For a separate resting feature, NAV-F104 / M1089 Ripple Wall-Mounted Cat Bed is listed at 600 × 250 × 300 mm with an upholstered exterior and soft lining. Its supporting frame and fabric composition are not specified in the public record. It should not be described as a wooden shelf or assumed to connect to NAV-F084. Confirm its mounting, usable resting dimensions and intended-use limits independently.

Compare finish and upholstery samples with your existing retail range. Obtain care instructions for the actual surfaces, and ask which liners or wear parts can be removed or supplied separately. Similar colour and shape do not establish component compatibility.

5. Keep one technical master and prepare country-specific retail packs

A European range needs more than one English headline. Useful local category language includes cat wall shelves or cat climbing wall in the UK, Katzenwand in Germany, parcours mural chat in France and kattenmuur in the Netherlands. Use the term that fits the product; a single resting bed is not the same offer as a complete climbing route.

Maintain one approved technical master containing the module references, dimensions, parts list and drawings. From that master, prepare the agreed English, German, French or Dutch listing and instruction versions for the countries you will serve. Have the local team check terminology, warnings and customer questions together. This is a content workflow, not a statement that one language set satisfies every destination's requirements.

Put the same set reference on the retail listing, carton, manual and replacement-parts sheet. Keep metric dimensions consistent, identify exactly what is included, and show the wall-space requirement beside the room photograph. Agree destination-specific labelling and documentation with your importing team before approving the final pack. Treat the UK and individual EU destinations separately in the order brief.

6. Review the sample as a retailer and a service team

Ask a staff member to check the sample against its counted parts list and follow the supplied instructions using the approved installation method. Record unclear diagrams, missing references, surface damage and access for cleaning. Resolve the correction list before signing off the set, and retain the approved drawings and photographs with its revision number.

Request carton count, packed dimensions and gross weight for the selected set, plus packing photos that show how panels, fittings and fragile parts are separated. A quote for a complete wall and a quote for loose modules are only comparable once their contents and delivery basis match.

Ask whether replacement brackets, backing sections, scratching components or capsules can be ordered individually, with their prices and lead times. Availability is not assumed. Agree how a shop identifies a damaged part and checks compatibility before promising a replacement to its customer.
